No championships are listed for 1891, 1894, 1915–1919, 1921, 1933, 1940, 1968 and 2020.

Sources: historical champion and venue list; SSB 2023; SSB 2026; TWIC 2009; TWIC 2013; TWIC 2014; TWIC 2018; TWIC 2019. Chess-Results 2023; 2024; 2025. Other RR field sizes and complete result sets are reconstructed from the supplied sui.pgn. Last reviewed: 9 October 2026.

Preliminary chronology, 1889–2026: 126 championship-year records. The 2026 event is officially numbered 126. International editions (†) belong to the same numbered series. The main winner column lists the Swiss champion; where reconstructed, the overall tournament winner is shown separately.

Numbering: early numbers follow the historical congress sequence. The title listed in 1941 does not fit the later numbered congress sequence and is shown without a number pending verification. Later numbers are reconstructed consistently with source anchors: 1948 = 49, 1956 = 57, 2003 = 103, 2021 = 120, 2022 = 121. SSB calls 2023 the 123rd championship and 2026 the 126th; this published jump is retained, without inventing a 122nd event.

Coverage: RR = round robin; S-n = Swiss system, n rounds; ? = not yet established. Players means the full field only when established, not the number of names in a partial PGN. Games is the number of available main-event records; * marks incomplete or unverified coverage. Main-event results are complete for 1999–2026 (2020 was cancelled). Online PGNs supply moves for 2004 and 2023–2026; larger open fields still contain result-only records where a move score has not been located. Rapid play-offs in 2023, 2024 and 2026 are documented with game links under the main-event crosstable. Classical play-offs have separate p/o rows; rapid and blitz tie-break games are linked from the main event. Download links appear only for prepared files. 1995: provisional Swiss-system classification, 12 players and 54 supplied games, approved by the user; the system still needs independent confirmation. TXT batches are preliminary and need review before database publication.
