Tournament Review

The championship was held as a nine-round open with 109 participants after the withdrawal of its main sponsor. Igor Khenkin won the open with 7½ points, ahead of Anthony Miles (7). Joseph Gallagher won the Swiss title after a 1½–½ play-off against Markus Klauser; Andreas Huss also scored 6½ but had the lowest Buchholz of these three title contenders. The play-off is excluded from the main-event statistics.
