Tournament Review

The third international tournament in Skopje. First place was shared by Hort and Matulović.

The Macedonian organisers held a small qualifying tournament, which was won by Evrosimovski, earning him a place in the main event.

Of the eight grandmasters who had been invited and had entered the tournament, Suetin withdrew because of commitments in a team competition in the USSR. The Soviet side promised to send another grandmaster in his place, but this did not materialise. The organisers therefore began a search for a foreign master in order to secure FIDE Category I-A status for the tournament.

Just when it seemed that this would not be possible, the Zagreb organisers managed to locate the American master Yaffee, who was taking part in a youth work action in Zagreb, and promptly sent him on to Skopje.
