Tournament Review

The second international tournament in Macedonia was held under the patronage of the Committee of the humanitarian event Meeting of Solidarity. Most of the tournament was played in Skopje, while rounds 7–12 took place in Ohrid.

The Skopje City Chess Committee decided that Sofrevski would be given a direct place in the tournament, while two further places and one reserve spot would be decided by a qualifying tournament for Macedonian master candidates, in which the junior champion Evrosimovski was also to take part.

Only seven of the twelve eligible players eventually entered the qualifying event, which was therefore played as a double round-robin Berger tournament. The final standings were: Ničevski 8½, D.Ilijevski 8, B.Ilijevski 7, V.Krstev 6½, Evrosimovski 5, Džajkovski 4, Kizov 3.
