From December 28 to January 4
International Chess Tournament
in the Salone del Capitano del Popolo
The following countries will be represented: Argentina, Austria, France, Yugoslavia, and Switzerland.
With the participation of a strong group of foreign masters, the
1st New Year International Masters Chess Tournament of Reggio Emilia
will take place from December 28 to January 4 in the
Salone del Capitano del Popolo, made available by the EPT,
and organized by the Reggio Emilia Chess Academy.
The event, for which a number of attractive prizes have been offered,
will include representatives from Argentina, Austria, France, Yugoslavia,
and Switzerland, as well as several of the best-known Italian chess players,
among them the local Italian champion, Dr. Enrico Paoli.
The tournament has been organized by a committee composed of
Dr. Egidio Pappagiari, president;
Mr. Giuseppe Maiocchi, vice-president; and
Dr. Enrico Paoli, secretary.
The tournament director will be Rag. Vittorio Villani.

- Sunday 28: 11:00 a.m. – opening ceremony and drawing of lots; 3:00–8:00 p.m. – Round 1
- Monday 29: 8:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. – Round 2; 3:00–8:00 p.m. – Round 3
- Tuesday 30: 3:00–8:00 p.m. – Round 4; (9:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. – adjourned games)
- Wednesday 31: 3:00–8:00 p.m. – Round 5; (9:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. – adjourned games)
- Thursday 1 January 1959: 3:00–8:00 p.m. – Round 6; (9:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. – adjourned games)
- Friday 2 January: 3:00–8:00 p.m. – Round 7; (9:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. – adjourned games)
- Saturday 3 January: 2:00–7:00 p.m. – Round 8; (8:00 a.m.–12:00 noon – adjourned games; from 8:00 p.m. until completion – adjourned games from the penultimate round)
- Sunday 4 January: 8:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. – Round 9 and final round; (3:00–8:00 p.m. – adjourned games); 8:00 p.m. – closing ceremony and prize-giving
