Tournament Review

After an eight-player tournament in Leeuwarden, where the competition takes place in early August in the local paper factory and the theatre, three men appear to be the strongest: Cortlever, De Groot and Van den Hoek. After a short three-player playoff, 20-year-old Amsterdam student Van de Hoek wins. He may challenge Euwe, but in the direct confrontation that follows in mid-October in The Hague he is outclassed: Euwe wins 8-2 (+6, =4) against Van den Hoek.
