International Chess Tournament
Nikolaev (Ukraine), 1-13 August 2001

The international tournament in honour of decade of Ukrainian Independence finished in the regional chess club. Tournament winner became known beforehand, it was Alexander Areschenko from Lugansk. The 15-year's old world champion among the teenagers has brilliantly acted in the competition of such a high rank (7th FIDE Category). He gained 7 victories, never has lost and collected 10 points out of 13. Thus, Areschenko scored international grandmaster norm and occupied the first rank. The Nikolaev international master Alexander Zubov has lagged behind the winner on 1,5 pts and it was a second result. The third place with 8 points was occupied by the Moldavian international master V.Slovineanu. One more representative of Ukraine - FIDE Master Sergey Kariakin, 1990 year of birth, scored 7,5 points and the international master norm. The Nikolaev master candidates S.Nakonechny and S.Bondarchuk have collected in this tournament 5 and 4 points respectively. (www.niknews.mk.ua)
