The Polish Chess Federation organized an international tournament in Warsaw from October 9 to 24. Unfortunately, Grandmaster Stahlberg withdrew in the final days before the event, and as a result the tournament lost its status as an event qualifying for an international title norm.

The winner was the Soviet International Master Tolush. He played in his well-known sharp style and deservedly took first place. He owed his successes above all to his tactical resourcefulness. The Bulgarian International Master Minev finished second with solid, cautious play. He was the only player in the field to remain undefeated.

Third and fourth places were shared by Grabczewski and the author of these lines. The former played in good form and justified the confidence of those who had placed him on the first two boards of the Polish team in the recently played Warsaw–Budapest match. I am only partly satisfied with my own play. My endgame technique was not precise enough; in several superior endings I failed to convert my advantage into a win. A characteristic feature of my tournament was that eight of my games were adjourned.

The negative surprise of the tournament was the poor performance of International Master Śliwa.

The technical conditions of the tournament were ensured with devoted and conscientious work by Master Stefan Witkowski, the head of the organizing committee; the role of tournament director was performed by the very likeable Wiktor Witkowski. No disputes occurred.
