Bent Larsen took part in a “small” tournament in Krylbo, Sweden, held to mark the anniversary of the local club. Erik Lundin wrote about it in Dagens Nyheter: “The brief appearance of the victory-hardened Bent Larsen at the anniversary celebrations of Krylbo Chess Club fully lived up to expectations. He gave us striking glimpses of the highest-level play that has made his name known throughout the world. Of particular interest were the circumstances surrounding the Dane’s victory over Martin Johansson. Bent Larsen commented on the apparently simple position after the opening with the words: ‘I almost always win positions like this; I do not know why!’ Suddenly White ‘liberated’ a pawn on the d-file, and Black lost—‘Martin does not know why!’” The final result of the “small” tournament was: Bent Larsen, 3 points; Erik Lundin and Martin Johansson, both of Sweden, 1½ points each; and Svein Johannessen of Norway, 0 points.
