There is much controversy surrounding this match. Donaldson & Minev point out numerous, unaswered questions:
1. The match appears to have stretched over many monthes, sliced by Carlsbad, Ostende and then All-Russian Championship, which us rather unprecedented.
2. There is no good reason to play such a monstruous match. D&M believe it might be best of 30, in which case Rubinstein's win in game 22 made the score decisive 16—6, but there is also +12 -2 =5 variant.
3. Rubinstein and Salwe were of roughly equal strength at the time, yet the match seems one sided. Why?
4. There is no certainty that all attached games actually were part of this match.
