Tournament Review

A note on the rest day: evidence suggests that the rest day was on Sunday 2 January, though neither the bulletin, nor the Times nor magazines make this clear. The Manchester Guardian report published on Monday 3 January, with the third round results, gives the place and date of their correspondent's report as 'Hastings, Saturday'. Perhaps more convincing is the short report in The Observer, Sunday 2 January, reporting that Thomas and Rossolimo drew their third round game. This suggests that round 3 took place on 1 January with no scheduled play on 2 January.
