Tournament Review

This year, the Royal Tropical Institute (KIT) is hosting the Dutch Championship, just a few hundred meters away from the Manor hotel in Amsterdam East. A beautiful location with plenty of space for various side activities, as well as an attractive terrace beside Oosterpark. Without Anish Giri, Van Wely is of course the favorite, although he does not play that much anymore. However, 17-year-old Jorden van Foreest, substitute for Tiviakov, starts excellently with 3 out of 3. The match with Van Wely is scheduled for the 6th round, but the young Groningen player manages to draw after a tough defense and retain a half-point lead. By beating Jan Werle in the final round, Jorden becomes the youngest Dutch-born Dutch champion.
