An eight-player tournament takes place between Christmas and New Year's Eve in the upstairs room of Café Hollandais in The Hague. Olland and Speyer are missing, but 19-year-old mathematics student Max Euwe makes his debut. His game is impressive, but still lacks the consistency of the future world champion. Partly due to a miniature defeat against Oskam, Euwe finished second, together with Reurt Meijer, who led the list until the last round but was defeated by Marchand in the last round. |
