With Riehen leading 4-3, reserve Dragomir Vucenovic defeated Heinz Wirthensohn in 70 moves after nearly six hours. The resulting 4-4 draw gave Genève the title. A draw in this last game would instead have forced a championship play-off. Markus Ragger was competing on the Isle of Man, while Jörg Grünenwald was taking a break from chess.
