Tournament review

Blažkova-FrančiškovićSwitzerland, Austria and Italy, three of ten nations participating in 2005 did not arrive at Brno, so they had to be replaced with reserve Czech and Slovak teams to save a ten team event. The lineup was somehow weaker than previous years, with just a few +2200 players (top player was rated at mere 2257) and no WGMs. Most of teams were of more or less equal strength with Romania being top seeds.

The event was once again confidently won by the Slovenian girls, who took over the lead after third round. The Slovenes, who played with no reserve, slipped up in round #7 losing to Czech "C" team but still crossed the line with a clear point advantage over surprise German girls. Croatia won bronze medals, and it certainly could have been much better had only Maček arrived. The Czech and Slovak teams produced major disappointment to occupy bottom part of the table. There were no spectacular individual achievements. Best players managed to score 6 points out of 9 games.
