In the final round England were to play Scotland. The English team list for that round was not submitted in time. In accordance with the competition rules, the Tournament Controller deemed the England team to be the same as in the previous round. When the England team list was finally submitted just before the start of the round, it was found to be different from that of the previous round. The England team arrived at about 9:30, 15 minutes after the scheduled start of play and the Controller gave an ultimatum to the England team manager to seat his team in the board order prescribed by the controller or to face disqualification. The manager wanted to consider his position because one of the previous round's players was absent. 25 minutes after the scheduled start, a further ultimatum was given and when the manager did not immediately comply the Scotland team was awarded the match by default 6-0.
Due to the increasing financial costs of running the Glorney and Faber Cups the annual Committee Meeting changed the Rules so that teams in the Glorney were to be a minimum of 4 (Glorney) and 3 (Faber), the exact numbers to be decided by the host country. Teams could still bring a reserve. It was hoped that in practice that there would be no change to the usual numbers of 6 (Glorney) and 4 (Faber) players per team.
