1966 was another tournament first, when the event was played on the continent and Paris because he first city outside the British Isles to act as host. To mark the first time the event had been held on continental Europe the 4 teams from the British Isles presented an engraved chess board to the French Chess Federation to be used at its discretion to encourage youth chess in France. Again an exciting tournament developed with the advantage swaying between England, Holland [with a youthful Timman on board one making his debut] and Scotland, and finally resting once more with England.
