Just four titled and two +2200 Elo players went to Hungary to compete in the girl's championship. With just two games being played in each match the outcome of the games is always random to some degree. Hungary "A" (Elo 2214) were clear favourites while the question of lower podium positions remained open.
The games were unexpectedly tough. Hungary "A" took the win but had they lost to Hungary "C" on the last day (they took two brisk draws taking no risk) as much as six teams would tie on match points! Just three match wins and four match draws contributed to Hungary's win. As in boys event the run for silver was exceptionally close. Romania took silver by virtue of Buchholz count - they tied with Slovakia on match and game points. The Slovaks could not make it any better as they did impressive final spurt: two consecutive 2-0's in the last two rounds. Third seeds Serbia came in disappointing seventh. Best individual result was obtained by Mária Ignácz, board one for Hungary "A" who scored 5½/7 to win the prize for best result at her board.
