Tournament review

A dozen of teams participated in the premier girl's U18 European Team Championship. There were some good players there, including three +2300 players: Pokorná of Slovakia, Pähtz of Germany and Dembo of Hungary "B". Hungary "A" represented by the Gara sisters were the top seeds.

As in boys' section Ukraine took the title beating Hungary 1½-½ in the decisive match on day five. The Ukrainians were the only team to avoid match loss. Rohonyan at reserve board scored very good 6/6 as did board #1 player Karlovich (4/6) - but board #2 Kostiuk scored disastrous 0/2! Did it ever happen before that a member of a winning team lost all of his or hers games? Hungary came in second while Moldova took bronze medals, which was sort of surprise. Best individual results: Rohonyan 6/6, Pähtz 4/5 and T.Gara 5½/7.
